This role will support the GCNO and GCMO to lead and manage the co-directorate and their work across the Sites and with partners. This will be a key role on the leadership team, helping to engage and bring teams together to create a vision, culture and approach to delivery that aligns with corporate priorities and Group initiatives.
As a trusted advisor, supporting the GCNO and GCMO with their own personal workloads you will prioritise and delegate on their behalf. You will assist them with organisational development, change and improvement, acting as a sounding board and provide advice on approaches and challenges.
The post holder will have oversight of all co-directorate activities, projects, issues and risks associated with the co-directorate’s operational plans, and will assist in ensuring their delivery. You will lead departmental cross cutting initiatives, actively identifying opportunities to improve services and processes.
You will be able to understand the operational impact of strategic plans, creating a network across the co-directorate and Group, which will allow you to engage views and opinions of front-line staff as well as managers.
It will require strong leadership, planning, problem solving, programme and change management skills as well as the ability to quickly build credibility across the co-directorate the Sites and partners to be able to influence at all levels.
The role will:
• develop plans and strategies to achieve organisational objectives, and then help to track these through to completion
• manage the management team meetings, ensuring that the right items are discussed at the right time, and that these discussions support high quality, informed decision making, and that actions and ownership is clear.
• ensure that the GCNO and GCMO are briefed on all key issues arising, working pro-actively with management teams to pre-empt issues and resolve them on the Group Executive Director’s behalf.
• ensure they have a strong grip on the organisational priorities and are able to actively identify dependencies or links with Group initiatives.
• personally lead on departmental projects as required.
• be the lead point for linkages with Group Support Services, including overseeing the departmental budget, developing business plans, owning the risk register, liaising with HR, Finance and ICT as necessary.
• represent the Co-directorate at meetings as necessary.
• manage the Business Managers within the co-directorate and ensure there is a robust administrative support model in place across the co-directorate.
• ensure that the co-directorate has systems in place to ensure that we consistently meet deadlines and KPIs and problem-solve with the relevant leaders when we are at risk of failing to deliver.
St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. The role will be varied and will adapt over time depending on departmental priorities, and the role will:
• work with co-directorate’s senior leadership team to develop plans and strategies to achieve organisational objectives, and then help to track these through to completion, providing support and guidance as necessary.
• manage the GCNO and GCMO management team meetings, ensuring that the right items are discussed at the right time, and that these discussions support high quality, informed decision making, and that actions and ownership is clear.
• ensure that the GCNO and GCMO are briefed on all key issues arising, working pro-actively with management teams to pre-empt issues and resolve them on the Group Executive Director’s behalf.
• be a conduit for communications, ensuring that everyone across the co-directorate is aware of key issues and expectations.
• link into other directorate and Hospital leadership teams, Project Teams and others to ensure they have a strong grip on the organisational priorities and are able to actively identify dependencies or links with Group initiatives.
• personally lead on departmental projects as required.
• be the lead point for linkages with Group Support Services, including overseeing the departmental budget, developing business plans, owning the risk register, liaising with HR, Finance and ICT as necessary.
• represent the Co-directorate at meetings as necessary.
