Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Shrewsbury
Pay Rate: £12.82 - £14.00 per hour
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young adults with learning disabilities? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our team in Shrewsbury.
About the Role:
As an LSA, you will work with adults aged 18-25 who have moderate to severe learning disabilities, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and additional complex needs. Your role will be pivotal in supporting their educational and personal development.
Key Details:
* Hours: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
* Days: 3 days per week (flexible on which days)
* DBS Requirement: Child and adult DBS required
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Working under the direction of Tutors to support students to access individualised learning programmes, within small classes and on a one-to-one basis.
* Supporting students’ learning and independence in the College and community environments.
* Following communication, therapy, intervention, and support strategies to help students overcome barriers to learning, including role-modelling expected behaviours.
* Supporting students with their physical and emotional needs.
* Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring safeguarding learners is paramount while promoting a positive safeguarding culture at all times.
* Assisting Tutors in preparing the learning environment and ensuring all resources are available at the start of the session.
* Assisting Tutors in clearing up after each session, putting work away, and preparing displays of work.
* Contributing to daily records, including student progress and achievement reports.
* Occasionally covering in the absence of the Tutor.
* Providing personal intimate care to learners, including the changing of continence aids.
* Contributing to the assessment processes for students.
* Providing physical support to learners, including assisting with dressing/undressing, pushing wheelchairs, and transferring or hoisting.
* Supporting at meal times, from encouraging to assisting with feeding.
* Ensuring learners are comfortable and appropriately positioned.
* Assisting with loading and unloading vehicles and driving (no special license required).

* Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities or complex needs (preferred but not essential).
* A caring and patient approach with strong communication skills.
