Postdoctoral Research Associate (Bioinformatician): The Department of Biology at the University of Oxford presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the multimillion Ineos-Oxford Institute (IOI) for AMR Research. The successful candidate will join the Sheppard Lab and PubMLST development team to support and analyze large bacterial genome collections, with a focus on understanding the epidemiology and evolution of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in important pathogens.

Location: William Dunn School, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3RE – Moving to the new Life and Mind Building in 2025
* Hold or be close to completion of a degree in a relevant subject (e.g., microbiology, bioinformatics, genomics )
* Experience in bioinformatics and genome analysis techniques
* Demonstrable enthusiasm for genomics and bioinformatics projects
* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and engage with stakeholders
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team
Job Description:
The successful candidate will develop and apply genome analysis pipelines to identify potentiating mutations and/or gene gains on projects across the IOI and PubMLST network. Bioinformatics techniques will encompass database-driven analyses and quantitative comparative genomics approaches. The role will involve integrating work within the broader research program, collaborating closely with other researchers within the Sheppard Lab and the IOI. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to present research proposals and results, engage with a wide range of stakeholders, and represent the research team at meetings and conferences.
