Component Production Engineer
Reporting to: Component Production Engineering Manager
Direct Reports: None
Purpose of Role:
A Production Engineer delivers support and resources to develop and deliver robust manufacturing processes into the component manufacturing teams, from initial DFM through to delivery of customer orders.
The primary objective of the role is to produce detailed planning that conforms to customer requirements, including sole responsibility to design and prove out the optimal processes for right first-time service to the component manufacturing teams.
Other key areas of the role include:
1. Competent knowledge within the precision engineering environment supported by DMAIC Greenbelt and Lean Problem-solving tools.
2. Collaboration with key business teams such as operation support, Component Teams, estimating, purchasing, and sales.
3. Communication across all functions within the business to provide constructive and objective input.
4. Training and development of the wider production engineering team.
A production engineer must maintain a strong commitment to the company’s principles, respect current procedures and policies, and adopt a flexible approach to new manufacturing techniques and developments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Adhere to the Production Engineering procedures and documentation.
2. Ensure products are manufactured efficiently and to customer specifications.
3. Read engineering drawings and use 3D design software (Solidworks preferable).
4. Outline method creation to support customer enquiries and estimating.
5. Work with supply chain to develop new and existing processes.
6. Create NC programs using CAM software for specific applications.
7. Design and create tooling to assist in the manufacture of complex production parts.
8. Conduct risk assessments of new processes as part of project delivery.
9. Comply with Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
10. Drive improvement activities using DMAIC and Lean problem-solving skills.
11. Help develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
12. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technological advancements for manufacturing development.
13. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
14. Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review their impact on manufacturing activities.
15. Strive to increase throughput via efficient and effective processes.
16. Introduce best practices to drive reduction in repeating NCRs.
17. Have ownership of robust NCR response and closure.
Understand and review detailed customer specifications and apply them to current manufacturing methods in a timely manner.
