What you’ll be doing In this role, you'll support the Senior Project Manager with the planning and delivery of specific contracts or work packages. This includes helping to secure appropriate resources, identifying any gaps or issues within the project team, and ensuring all work is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. You’ll assist in developing strategies that align with the overall programme execution plan and ensure that work schedules are created, maintained, and aligned with broader project timelines. A key part of the role involves working closely with stakeholders, suppliers, and consultants to ensure smooth delivery and resolution of any issues that arise—especially during the manufacturing phase. You’ll be expected to manage change effectively, including defining scope, supporting business cases, and implementing agreed changes in line with governance processes. Coordination of material and equipment deliveries, handling submittal approvals, and addressing technical queries or contract variations are also part of your day-to-day responsibilities. Beyond delivery, you'll contribute to ongoing improvement by identifying risks, tracking progress, and ensuring effective communication across project interfaces. Maintaining alignment with wider programmes, capturing lessons learned, and sharing best practices will help enhance both current and future project outcomes. Your efforts will directly support the successful execution of the contract or package of work, while also contributing to the team’s long-term performance and development. Who you are You'll bring effective leadership and coordination to complex, multi-disciplinary projects. You’ll have a solid understanding of engineering and construction processes, with experience in mechanical design, field execution, and managing project delivery across EPCM environments. Knowledge of construction regulations, particularly CDM, and familiarity with working under NEC and FIDIC contracts is important. A background in managing procurement, cost control, scheduling, and risk is essential, along with experience handling contract changes and commercial claims. You’ll be confident using tools for estimating, planning, risk management, and Earned Value Management, and able to interpret data to inform decisions. Strong numeracy, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills are key, as is the ability to present information clearly and influence others effectively. Understanding nuclear quality requirements and how these are controlled is highly valued in this environment. We’re looking for someone with a proven track record in project delivery within regulated sectors, particularly where stakeholder engagement is crucial. Experience in managing contractors, consultants, and advisors is important, and while a degree in mechanical engineering, construction, or a related field is desirable, it’s not essential. Similarly, holding a recognised project management qualification such as APM PPQ would be beneficial.
