Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide essential care and assistance to individuals in various settings, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This role involves supporting clients with daily activities, ensuring their comfort and safety, and promoting their overall well-being. The Support Worker will work closely with healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care tailored to each individual's needs.
Responsibilities
1. Assist clients with personal care tasks, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
2. Provide support for individuals with dementia and other cognitive impairments, ensuring their safety and comfort.
3. Engage clients in meaningful activities to promote social interaction and mental stimulation.
4. Perform heavy lifting as required to assist clients with mobility and transfers.
5. Monitor clients' health and report any changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
6. Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by following hygiene protocols.
7. Support behaviour management strategies as needed to ensure a positive experience for all clients.
8. Drive clients to appointments or activities when necessary, ensuring their safe transport.
9. Provide first aid assistance in emergencies while adhering to established protocols.
10. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses and healthcare professionals, to deliver comprehensive care.
Skills
1. Experience in dementia care or working within a nursing home or assisted living environment is highly desirable.
2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members and healthcare professionals.
4. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively when assisting clients.
5. Knowledge of first aid practices is advantageous; certification is preferred but not mandatory.
6. Understanding of hospice care principles is beneficial for providing end-of-life support when required.
7. A compassionate approach towards caregiving, demonstrating patience and empathy in all interactions.
