This is an exciting opportunity for a Junior Clinical Fellow to join the busy Ophthalmology department at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. This fixed term post is to cover maternity leave.
The Ophthalmology service is the largest outpatient service at the Trust, seeing up to 200 patients per day across the various sub-specialities. It also provides the highest volume day case procedure of Cataract surgery, as well as a number of other specialist Ophthalmology procedures and treatments. The department is based on the main hospital site and provides a daily emergency eye service, including an on call until 9pm each day.
The service is supported by a large multidisciplinary team including 9 consultants, 5 speciality doctors, 2 trainees, the nursing team including clinical nurse specialists, optometrists, orthoptists, technicians and administrative staff.
This post will support the department to cover the emergency eye service including the 1st on call rota, as well as support for the subspecialty clinics. This is a great role for anyone seeking to gain varied experience in Ophthalmology.
· Maintenance and development of the highest clinical standards in the management of all Ophthalmology patients.
· To work closely with local managers, general practitioners and other medical and professional clinical colleagues in the efficient running of the service.
· To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, research and audit.
·To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
