Our client based in Basildon is looking for an experienced Freight Forwarding Road Transport Manager to join their team on a permanent basis. The role involves managing and developing a small Transport team of 3 drivers and 2 office staff whilst providing support to other sites with regards to guidance on fleet management and supplier relationships. The CPC Qualification would be an advantage.
Responsibilities for this Transport Manager role include:
1. Managing the daily road operations (UK & European) for all Basildon clients.
2. Coordinating and managing the scheduling and dispatch of the fleet along with developing and mentoring the transport team.
3. Responding to any clients in a timely and professional manner.
4. Ensuring high standards of customer service are maintained, addressing any issues or complaints promptly and effectively.
5. Managing all Road suppliers, looking for quality service levels at a competitive cost.
6. Weekly and Monthly reporting to the Branch Manager for the road department.
7. Implementing cost-effective strategies for fleet utilisation and fuel savings.
8. Close coordination and communication with the Warehouse Manager regarding truck arrivals and departures at the Basildon site using current booking in procedures.
9. Leading, motivating and managing a small team of drivers and office staff.
10. Managing the transport budget, ensuring cost control and financial efficiency.
As Transport Manager you will need:
1. At least 3 years proven experience in freight forwarding road transport management and strong knowledge of transport regulations and compliance.
2. The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment whilst managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and supporting other parts of the operation.
3. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
4. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
5. A proactive and committed approach and the ability to deal with challenging scenarios.
6. Flexibility and be supportive of an evolving workplace.
7. The CPC qualification would be a distinct advantage.
In return for your experience and hard work, our client is offering a salary of GBP45,000 - GBP50,000pa along with a great benefits package.
The working hours are 9.00 to 5.30 Monday to Friday (Flexibility is required when workload demands).
