Basic Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
* A Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics Engineering, or Materials Science or Engineering
* A strong ceramics background, preferably with experience with piezoelectric ceramics.
* A general understanding of all aspects of ceramic processing from powder formulation to finished parts.
* A willingness to do hands-on work in developing and experimenting with new ceramic materials and geometries.
* An ability and willingness to participate in a lead-monitoring program.
* An ability and willingness to wear a respirator for extended periods of time.
* A familiarity with failure analysis techniques and equipment.
* A familiarity with material property testing.
* US Citizenship; this position will require a government security clearance. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.

The Work Responsibilities
We are in search of an experienced Materials Engineer with an extensive background in Ceramics Engineering. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry-leading design professionals and contribute to groundbreaking projects. As an Experienced Engineering Professional, your responsibilities will include:
* Developing piezoelectric ceramics for sensors to be used in sonar systems and other military applications.
* Analyzing and testing materials, parts, and assemblies to determine causes of failure.
* Performing research and development to generate new or modified ceramic materials.
* Supporting the development of transducer assemblies.
* Transitioning ceramic sensors into production.

Desired Skills
* Familiarity with failure analysis and lab equipment used in support of failure analysis and ceramics development (scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, FTIR, X-Ray, X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, etc.)
* Familiarity with material property (mechanical, thermal, electrical) testing with universal testing machines, thermomechanical analyzers, hardness testing, etc.
* Knowledge on corrosion analysis and corrosion mechanics.
* Familiarity with rheology.
* Familiarity with thermal analysis.
* Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE).
* General Knowledge of ceramic additive and tape casting would be an added plus.
* Good technical communication skills.
* Strong Data collection and management skills for decision making.
* Experience in a lab/research setting.
* Experience working cross-discipline with a variety of different engineers.
* Wide depth and breadth across all material classifications (metals, ceramics, polymers, composites).

Ability to work remotely
Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five-day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
