Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Operations to lead our operations team in the management of our contract logistics business based at our head office in South Wales. This leadership role will oversee the daily operations, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement of our logistics network. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational excellence, optimizing costs, and ensuring the delivery of top-tier service to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Leadership:
* Lead the day-to-day operations of road freight and warehousing services, ensuring efficiency, safety, and high customer satisfaction levels.
* Develop and execute operational strategies in alignment with business goals, aiming to improve service delivery and streamline logistics processes.
* Provide leadership and direction to the operations team of operations team, fostering a high-performance culture.
1. Performance Management:
* Manage key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly review performance to ensure operations meet or exceed expectations in areas such as cost control, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
* Use data and analytics to monitor, measure, and improve operational efficiency, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
1. Cost Optimization:
* Drive initiatives to reduce operational costs while maintaining service excellence.
* Manage budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation to optimize operational spend and maximize profitability.
* Negotiate contracts with carriers and third-party service providers to secure the best rates and terms.
1. Supply Chain and Logistics Strategy:
* Collaborate with other data/technology and legal departments to ensure smooth integration of services across the supply chain.
* Optimize road freight routes, warehousing operations to enhance overall supply chain efficiency.
* Work closely with the senior leadership team to identify growth opportunities and ensure scalability of operations.
1. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
* Ensure all operations comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
* Promote a culture of safety across all teams and ensure adherence to best practices in warehousing, transportation, and road freight management.
1. Customer Relationship Management:
* Serve as a point of escalation for operational issues, providing timely solutions to customer concerns and ensuring customer satisfaction.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, providing operational support to meet their evolving needs.
* Collaborate with the commercial leads to develop tailored logistics solutions that meet client specifications.
1. Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
* Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
* Stay informed on industry trends and new technologies that can improve operations and keep the business competitive.
* Lead and/or participate in special projects aimed at enhancing service quality and optimizing business operations.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
* Experience:
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in supply chain or logistics operations, within a leadership role in a related industry.
* Expertise in road freight management and warehouse operations, including inventory management, transportation, and distribution.
* Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale logistics operations and driving operational efficiency.
* Skills:
* Strong leadership and team management abilities.
* In-depth knowledge of logistics technology, warehouse management systems (WMS), and transportation management systems (TMS).
* Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
* Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost management, and financial reporting.
