An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist with significant experience in Critical Care and surgery to become our Health Board wide Lead Pharmacist for Critical Care, Anaesthetics and Surgery, based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

You will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team within critical care, facilitating holistic patient care and providing a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service.
The post is offered to a candidate who meets the essential criteria and will be issued with the full band 8b JD OR under Annex 21 to a candidate who meets the majority of the criteria, and will be required to undertake up to a 36-month training programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain the Critical Care qualification and also complete their Consultant Pharmacist Credentialing within the first 12 months in the role.
Upon successful attainment of the qualification, even if sooner than the 36 month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 8b as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role, and be expected to undertake all duties within this Job Description as indicated.
Main duties of the job
To be the Principal Lead Pharmacist in the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the critical care unit and surgical wards at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital (RGH). This involves setting up and maintaining close links with medical and nursing staff providing these services.
To plan and develop and deliver the Health Board wide Medicines Management service and strategy for critical care, surgery and anesthetics in conjunction with the Heads of Pharmacy on the acute sites for Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).
To provide specialist clinical expertise and financial advice to the Planned Care Directorate and Medicines Committees including representation at the CTMUHB Access to Medicines Committee and medicines management groups covering secondary care e.g. Medication Safety.
To contribute to and represent CTMUHB on any relevant All Wales Groups.
To lead on All Wales projects that have been disseminated from the All Wales Work Groups.
Manage and motivate pharmacy staff working in critical care and surgical specialities across CTMUHB. This includes responsibility for appraisal, sickness absence management, recruitment and selection, and undertaking performance reviews. This includes facilitating their development through planning and implementation of relevant training programme and regular performance reviews and personal development planning.

Under Annex 21 Terms and Conditions the salary will be as follows:
Months 1-12 of the training period will be paid at 65% of the top of Band 8b pay scale,
Months 13-24 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 8b pay scale,
Months 25-36 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 8b pay scale.

NOTE: To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of the Band 8b, again without financial detriment.
Person Specification
Experience
* Hospital/managed sector pharmacy experience including clinical pharmacy.
* Experience of training and supervising staff.
* Experience of producing medicines use and expenditure reports.
* Proven ability to work independently at an advanced level.
* Proven record of clinical competence.
* Experience of managing a team/service.
* Experience of implementing change.
* Experience of planning audit or research.
* Experience of critically appraising literature.
* Experience of implementing National Standards.
Qualifications & Knowledge
* Vocational Master's Degree in Pharmacy.
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Advanced knowledge of medicines management in secondary care.
* Good knowledge of medicines governance processes.
* Evidence of continuing CPD.
* Evidence of risk management in Hospital Pharmacy.
* Good knowledge of strategic plans for pharmacy services/development.
* Additional Critical Care Qualification or able to complete whilst in post.
* Consultant Pharmacist Credentialed within ICU, or able to undertake whilst in post.
* Postgraduate Diploma in Therapeutics. Post Graduate management course.
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).
* Accredited DS for the HEIW postgraduate pharmacy programme.
Other role requirements
* Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards achieving this level.
