This vacancy is only open to those currently employed by the University of Sussex About the role The Research Manager is a pivotal force in advancing the Business School’s research ambitions, ensuring seamless project execution, financial stewardship, and strategic coordination. Overseeing a diverse portfolio of research initiatives, this role not only guarantees operational excellence but also drives institutional change by shaping processes, optimising resources, and supporting world-class research delivery. Leading a Research Support Team of 12 staff, the Research Manager works at the intersection of academia and administration, collaborating with Principal Investigators, senior leadership, and central University divisions to enhance research impact. With a focus on financial oversight, team development, and strategic priorities – including the Research Excellence Framework and key accreditations – this role is instrumental in creating a world-class research environment. About you You will be an experienced administrator and manager with a strong track record in operational support. You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills, be confident in working independently, and demonstrate the ability to set priorities and manage workload with minimal oversight. A solid understanding of research project finance and management within Uk research organisations is advised, along with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to advise senior colleagues on policies and procedures related to research administration. Strong leadership and team management skills are essential, with the ability to develop and support a high-performing research support team.
