Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust
We have an exciting opportunity for a newly qualified or established Occupational Therapist to join our friendly team of therapists at Tewkesbury Community Hospital, Abbeyview Ward. We welcome applications from those looking for their first post or those seeking to develop their existing role. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the team and will work in a ward-based environment with site visits as part of the role. You will work with an experienced and friendly multidisciplinary team alongside physiotherapists, nurses, GPs, mental health services, and social care.
If you are enthusiastic, have a person-centred approach to care, enjoy working within a small team of therapists, and are keen to progress clients to achieve their goals, we would love to hear from you. In turn, you will be well supported with CPD opportunities to develop and grow as a therapist within our organisation. We are ideally looking for a full-time occupational therapist but would also consider part-time hours.
Main duties of the job
The built hospital has 20 single ensuite rooms providing sub-acute care, rehabilitation, and end-of-life care to patients. This also includes 10 Community Assessment and Treatment beds that provide sub-acute care and rapid MDT assessment to patients directly admitted from the community. Benefits include working in a modern, well-equipped facility with a friendly team and ample free parking. Our aim is to enable people to live as independently as possible, and the ethos of the team is rehabilitation with a person-led approach to achieve recovery and return home. Much of the role involves assessment of patients with multiple pathologies, implementing rehabilitation goals, and coordinating safe discharges for the patients. We pride ourselves on being a creative and innovative team who enjoy the benefits of the autonomous style of working that the ward allows.
About us
We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity, and provides a sense of belonging and trust.
The annual NHS Staff Survey gives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust. For the 2023 survey, just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%). It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:
1. 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users;
2. 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work;
3. 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisation's priority;
4. 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative.
Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health, and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.
Job responsibilities
The qualification, training & experience requirements for the role are underlined in the Job Description/Person Specification.
The Trust aims to recruit and retain the best possible staff who, through the application of their skills, qualifications, and experience, will make a positive contribution to our business of providing quality health care services. It is the Trust's view that the costs associated with moving house in order to take up a post with us should not restrict our ability to recruit the excellent people we need; therefore, we support staff to relocate with our relocation policy.
This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training, and post holders must be able to undertake physical interventions. Fitness for physical intervention will be assessed by Occupational Health.
A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes is essential. For qualifying staff, the Trust has a Lease Car Scheme in place and also offers a popular Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme with our partner Tusker.
To ensure you fully understand how the Trust, as a Data Controller, will process and store your data, please read the attached document Applicant and Staff Privacy Notice prior to applying for the role.
Candidates for any staff appointment shall, when making application, disclose in writing to the Trust whether they are related to any governor. Failure to disclose such a relationship may disqualify a candidate and, if appointed, may render them liable to dismissal.
