Take on a new leadership challenge at the forefront of Mental Health Care
The Charity
We are St Andrew's, a mental health charity dedicated to inspiring hope for those living with complex mental health needs. We strive for a future with less stigma, more community support, and greater research and education, aiming to be at the forefront of inspiring real change. Join us in helping people transform their lives.
You will be part of a team of over 20 Consultant Psychologists and 50 registered Psychologists across our 3 sites (Northampton, Birmingham, and Essex) and our Community Partnerships division. There will be ample support and great opportunities for career progression.
Our patients and your colleagues will expect you to live the St Andrews CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence every single day.
Main Duties of the Job
The LD/ASD Division delivers specialized assessment and treatment to men and women with a diagnosis of intellectual disability and/or autism, along with co-morbid mental health, neurodevelopmental, and offending/challenging behavior needs requiring hospital treatment. The successful applicant will join a well-established psychology department that offers professional support and a wide range of expertise.
We seek a HCPC registered applied psychologist, Clinical, Counselling, or Forensic, to join our multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, social work, adult education, CAPS, vocational training, and physical health and exercise teams.
You will manage a caseload of patients with the assistance of an assistant psychologist. Key tasks include assessing, formulating, delivering treatment, and evaluating clinical outcomes for patients. Psychological treatment is provided within a broad cognitive behavioral model, emphasizing psychotherapy that addresses impairments in autism and intellectual disability, psychological treatment for emotional and psychiatric disorders, and offence-related interventions aimed at reducing recidivism. Clinical risk assessment and management are major aspects of this role, and familiarity with standardized methods for assessing clinical risks is essential.
About Us
St Andrews is committed to transitioning patients into the community as soon as possible, with several bespoke properties on-site for individuals moving from the hospital to the community. Part of your caseload may involve working with these patients to help prepare them for their transition.
Knowledge and experience of working with individuals diagnosed with Autism and/or Learning Disability is advantageous, as is experience with major mental illnesses, trauma, and offending behavior, as many of our patients present with multiple issues. As part of our LDA psychology team, you will have access to a larger group of counselling, clinical, and forensic psychologists in the charity for consultation and peer collaboration across other clinical specialties. The charity supports innovation and research, providing opportunities for research and development in this role.
