In this senior-level role, you will play an instrumental role in developing blood component research, products and processes, seeing to it that we are meeting the most current manufacturing, licencing and regulatory requirements. Taking the lead in deploying new technologies and improving our manufacturing capabilities, you will undertake strategic procurement exercises for critical manufacturing systems, working with a wide array of stakeholders ranging from operational managers to hospitals and commercial organisations. With direct responsibility for subject matter experts across the fields of blood component processing, quality monitoring and storage, you will be an inspirational leader who can get the most out of a highly skilled team. Identifying and solving complex operational and scientific problems, you will proactively determine where improvements could be made. You will therefore have exceptional project management skills, bringing potential issues and their proposed solutions together into achievable programmes of work. Main duties of the job Your responsibilities will include t aking direction from the Head of Manufacturing and Product Development on the below: Leading service innovation, system and process development and improvement, and strategic procurement of critical manufacturing systems and technologies, working closely with other functions including the Component Development Laboratory. Planning and delivering major change to services impacting clinical practice across a wide geographical area and multiple departments. Providing leadership, vision and direction required for effective working with stakeholders including senior NHSBT staff in all Directorates, operational managers, programme and project managers, clinical, scientific and finance colleagues, hospitals, commercial organisations and government agencies. Influencing and shaping a culture of innovation and improvement within manufacturing, and to model behaviours consistent with NHSBT mission and values. Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of component manufacturing, licencing and regulatory requirements, and the needs of stakeholders including other Directorates, Hospital customers and other stakeholders. Direct responsibility for direction, development and management of a team of subject matter experts in blood component processing, quality monitoring, storage and issue. Working with operational managers to ensure the manufacturing workforce has the capability to respond to changing customer requirements, the impact of new technology and the implementation of change About You Experience and Knowledge In depth knowledge of transfusion science and component development In depth knowledge of product development lifecycle Experience as a senior Manager within a similar environment (e.g. Pharmaceutical/diagnostic/scientific development) Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements relating to blood component manufacturing and development Experience of target setting, staff motivation and change management Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint) Qualifications and Training Master s level degree in a clinical field or relevant science, OR specialist knowledge demonstrated by a professional qualification equivalent to a Master s level, OR demonstrable knowledge and experience equivalent to Master s level Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD) Please view the attached recruitment profile which is a summary of the detailed Job Description and Person Specification for the full personal attributes we require for the role.
