Join the team at Wellesley Hospital as a Fitness Instructor, where you will work 37.5 hours a week and be a part of meaningful change. You will join the Occupational Therapy team, facilitating all fitness-based activities within the Occupational Therapy timetable. You'll receive support from the OT team, which consists of Registered Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants.
As part of the programme, you'll explore and promote different elements of a healthy lifestyle, covering key topics each week such as the importance of exercise, food groups, and lifestyle choices. You'll provide individual and group sessions in various locations, including a fully equipped gym and sports halls.

As a Fitness Instructor, you will be:
1. Preparing, designing, delivering, managing, and evaluating personal training programmes, group fitness, and hospital-wide exercise sessions.
2. Completing PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) assessments and risk assessments.
3. Understanding and educating others on anatomy, physiology, and their relation to exercise and health.
4. Educating service users on nutrition, physical activity, and health.
5. Carrying out audits and maintaining gym and fitness equipment.
6. Working collaboratively with the OT department and other disciplines.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
1. Previous fitness instruction experience.
2. Knowledge of mental health.
3. Completion of relevant personal trainer education.
4. Experience in designing and delivering personal training programmes.
5. Some knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating.
6. Experience working in a mental health setting is not essential but beneficial.
7. Understanding of mental health conditions and how they impact motivation.

You will be working at Wellesley Hospital, a purpose-built 101-bed hospital in Wellington (Somerset) for individuals with mental health needs, comprising 6 wards for mental health and 1 for Learning Disabilities and Autism. The hospital, built in 2017, collaborates with NHS Trusts and foundations to provide a supportive environment for patients.
