Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individual to support a family in caring for their 13-year-old child who has additional needs including ataxic cerebral palsy. The primary aspect of this role will be supporting the child to get up and ready for school, and assisting him with activities while he is at home after school, and on days out during the holidays and alternate weekends.
We’re looking to add another member to our Dream Team for a few hours a week. As well as a few formal requirements, we’re looking for someone who loves having fun but has an eye for detail. The child can be quite particular about how he likes things done, but you must also know when to gently but firmly put your foot down.
Primarily, the role will involve helping the child at home with getting up and ready for the day, mealtimes (not forgetting the snacks, of course!), bathing, and bedtime routines, with some fun activities in between. An ability to read the room and go with the flow is an advantage.
During the holidays, there will be opportunities for additional days out, either with the child and another member of the team or the rest of the family. A love of animals is a must, as the family has dogs and a pony. Experience around horses would be a bonus, but as long as you don’t have a fear of them, we can work with that!
Another part of the role will involve supporting the child with his therapy programs, focusing on making it all seem like fun.
We offer a welcoming, fun, and informal environment to work in. You’ll be working in our home most of the time, so we like to feel the team are part of our extended family while being able to work independently and get the job done.
So if you’re looking for a rewarding job that feels more like having fun, this could be right up your street.
You will work closely with therapists and the family, providing the highest standards of care and support. It is important that you are sensitive to the needs and boundaries of the family and can support the child’s parent in maintaining their structure and values.
Experience of working with young people or children with additional needs is preferred. You should have a personality that matches the child’s expectations, a willingness to learn, play, and have fun, along with the ability to work flexibly. Relevant job-specific training will be provided as necessary.
The post requires you to work under the direction of the client’s parent as well as independently. Reliability, integrity, complete trustworthiness, and the ability to use your own initiative are essential attributes for this role.
There will be more hours available during the school holidays. The team works together to cover sick leave and holidays, so more hours could be available. An excellent rate of pay is offered.
Hours are:
* 6 hours every Wednesday term time (before and after school) 7:15-9:15 am and 3:15-7:15 pm
* 10 hours per week every other Sunday 9 am-7 pm – term time only
* 10 hours (flexible) per week in the school holidays (13 weeks)
* Extra shifts always available to pick up
If you have any questions or would like an informal chat, please contact Tracy Banks at 07355 090913 or email tracy@positiveotcm.co.uk.
Initial interviews will be held the week commencing 25/11/2024.
Offer of employment is subject to safe recruitment pre-employment checks. A full induction will be provided in the first 2 weeks of employment. We require some level of experience, ideally NVQ Health and Social Care qualification, however, this is not essential. This will be discussed at a short pre-screener interview.
Should you wish to apply, please follow up your initial application with a covering letter sent directly to rebecca@positiveotcm.co.uk.
