The Assistant Finance Business Partner at Cefas plays an important role in supporting proactive financial engagement and performance across the organisation to deliver our government remit while ensuring great value for money for taxpayers. You will work collaboratively with the business to provide insightful financial guidance while contributing to the delivery of accurate and timely management and statutory financial reporting as part of our Finance Team. You will join a supportive and collaborative Finance Team, using your numeracy, data and systems skills to deliver results. In this role, the main duties and responsibilities of this post include:
* Support the delivery of monthly and annual financial reporting requirements for Cefas and to our parent, Defra.
* Maintain and reinforce our financial controls, assurance, and compliance, while supporting audit reviews and driving continuous improvement.
* As part of the Finance Team, provide professional customer orientated financial support and guidance to our people and our business.
* Support the Finance Team across its routine tasks when needed to ensure we provide consistent and resilient operations.
* Foster inclusive respectful working relationships with colleagues, partners, and suppliers, while promoting equality, diversity, and inclusivity.
This role, will focus on supporting effective financial management and compliance, reporting, and taxation across the organisation by:
* Assisting with business planning and monthly management financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Completing month-end processes, including journals and reconciliations.
* Assisting overhead budget holders in monitoring directorate budgets, providing analysis to manage spending and forecasting activities effectively.
* Reviewing and reconciling our Charge Rates and cost sheets and contribute to monthly management financial reporting and business planning where needed.
* Completing quarterly VAT returns, including appropriate analysis. Providing VAT and taxation advice to support the organisation.
* Supporting the production of the Annual Report and Accounts, including inter-government agreements. Overseeing year-end processes, including provisions, accruals, and capital commitments.
In addition, Cefas reserves the right to ask staff to take on additional duties and responsibilities which are commensurate with their grade. Team Leaders and management will have a discussion with staff to explain the changes that are to be made. A new job description will be issued if required.
