We currently have an opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's Specialist Services Team as a Rights of Way Delivery Officer. The role: Working as part of our Specialist Services team, you will lead on the delivery of the council’s Rights of Way function under the Highways Act 1980, the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (and such other subsequent or amended legislation as is applicable) for the creation, diversion and extinguishment of public rights of way. The Rights of Way Delivery Officer is a recently expanded role, and in leading on our statutory Rights of Way functions you will also be supporting the implementation of the council’s Cycling and Walking Strategy and seeking to optimise improvements to the rights of way network as part of new development. You will act as the primary source of internal advice and assistance on issues relating to public rights of way, providing advice on development proposals and planning applications. This is an exciting opportunity to join East Suffolk Council, to support the delivery of ambitious plans for growth set out in the council’s two Local Plans. We have also recently established a Cycling, Walking and Wheeling Working Group which will be guiding the delivery of projects to improve opportunities for active travel across the district. What you will need: To be successful in this role, you should be educated to degree level or equivalent, have up to date and thorough working knowledge of public rights of way legislation and best practice, as well as experience of the legal and practical processes involved in dealing with applications for Public Path Creation, Diversion and Extinguishment Orders and Agreements. With a degree (or equivalent) in a related subject, or significant experience of working in a relevant specialist area, you will be a member of the Institute of Public Rights of Way Officers or be working towards membership. As a career grade role, we would also welcome applications from those with more limited knowledge and experience.
