About the role
As a Farm Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing our on-site mini farm, ensuring it operates smoothly and safely. You will oversee all aspects of farm management, including animal care, gardening, and the maintenance of farm infrastructure, while creating engaging, therapeutic activities that support the well-being of our residents. Your role will focus on promoting sustainable practices, fostering a therapeutic environment, and ensuring residents can safely engage with the farm.
Reports to: Home Manager and/or Maintenance Manager
Key duties and responsibilities
* Maintain farm infrastructure: Ensure fencing, animal shelters, workshops, and other areas are safe and well-kept.
* Oversee animal care: Manage daily feeding, grooming, and health checks, following veterinary advice.
* Care for organic gardens: Maintain the home’s organic gardens and ensure sustainable farming practices.
* Facilitate resident involvement: Safely involve residents in farm activities with appropriate supervision.
* Plan farm activities: Create and run therapeutic activities that promote residents' well-being.
* Ensure health and safety: Maintain a safe environment on the farm, adhering to relevant regulations.
Skills and attributes
* Hands-on experience in animal care, crop cultivation, and general agricultural tasks within a commercial or institutional environment.
* Solid knowledge of tools, materials, and techniques used in animal husbandry and arable farming.
* Ability to train, coach, and mentor others in agricultural and care-related practices.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information.
* Exceptional organisational and planning skills, with attention to detail.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work as part of a team.
* Adaptability to modify activities to suit varying levels of resident ability and engagement.
Education and qualification
* Relevant qualifications in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field.
* Full UK driving licence, with the ability to drive company vehicles, including those with a trailer.
