THE ROLE
The BBC World Service has been undergoing a transformation to ensure that the best World Service content travels further and makes greater impact. We aim to enhance transparency in our storytelling, establishing BBC Arabic and BBC Persian as world leaders in transparent journalism.
The successful candidate will provide quick turnaround verification on regional stories using standardised BBC systems and tools, fact-check during breaking news and major events, and play a key part in the daily output of BBC Persian and BBC Arabic.
Your primary role will be to present on WSL Channels, and as a forensic expert work closely with colleagues in BBC Verify and BBC WSL Longform.
Main responsibilities
1. Lead and guide journalists and reporters to produce impactful, engaging investigative content based on robust research.
2. Provide rigorous supervision to ensure all journalism is produced in line with BBC guidelines.
3. Set up rigorous production workflows from data mining and verification to commissioning of visual assets.
4. Inspire journalists in creating explainers that shed light on transparency journalism.
5. Utilize recent technical innovations to make visual storytelling appealing to younger audiences.
6. Establish an efficient channel of pitching and commissioning stories.
7. Lead risk management and compliance, collaborating with relevant BBC teams.
8. Help other Channels editors skill up their teams in forensics and transparency journalism.
9. Collaborate with WSL Disinformation, BBC Verify and other teams.
10. Ensure all content reflects our diverse audiences.
11. Support and deputize for the Senior News Editor as needed.
12. Attend and chair meetings as necessary.
13. Champion sustainability in content production.
Are you the right candidate?
We are looking for someone who has:
1. Fluency in written and spoken Persian and English.
2. Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to inspire and guide a diverse team.
3. Demonstrable track record of commissioning and producing impactful stories.
4. Experience using OSINT and forensic tools for news-making content.
5. Proven track record of managing an editorial team.
6. Experience of developing innovative solutions to storytelling challenges.
7. Understanding of audience needs and the media landscape.
8. Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

Salary: £52,000 - £62,000 plus London Weighting depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
