We are excited to offer a Higher Assistant Psychologist post within the Memory Assessment Service at Alexander House in Knaresborough. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the clinical work of psychologists within the service, including administering standardised assessments, scoring and interpreting test data, and other duties that directly impact upon patient care. The post holder will be well supported by our friendly team and given regular clinical supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist and will be supported with their development goals e.g. further clinical training.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a post holder who will thrive amongst the multi-disciplinary team of professionals to assess, plan and provide patient care. You will work within a team of Registered Mental Health nurses, Support workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, as well as wider partner agencies including primary care services, social care and voluntary sector agencies.

Job responsibilities
Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for further detailed information to ensure that you meet the role criteria before applying. There will also be a requirement to provide short-term interventions one-to-one and in a group setting to patients who are in receipt of Home-Based Treatment as an alternative to Hospital admission.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in psychology
* Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
* Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
* Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, youth work, work with offenders, and/or research design and analysis
Experience
* Experience working as a psychology assistant (or equivalent)
* Experience working with people with mental ill health or learning disabilities (paid or voluntary)
* Previous involvement in clinical audit, research, or service evaluation.
* Experience using statistical software packages e.g. SPSS
* Experience of using psychometric assessments
Knowledge
* An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities
* Understanding of confidentiality.
* An understanding of the application of psychology to health care
* Knowledge of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct
Skills
* Ability to relate therapeutically to the needs of clients and in a way that addresses psychological resistance
* Ability to work collaboratively with members of the MDT to provide an effective service
* Utilise psychometric tests competently
* Statistical analysis
* Ability to lead a therapy group session (within agreed timescale)
* Plan and organise effectively to meet required timescales
* Use approved breakaway techniques
