Speciality Doctor in Clinical Neurophysiology
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
Interview is to be scheduled on the 8th and 10th January 2024
This post is designed to complement the services at the University Hospital. Junior medical staff currently comprise one Specialist Registrar post in Neurophysiology.
This is a whole time (10 sessions) Speciality Doctor in Clinical Neurophysiology post at University Hospital in Coventry.
The Model of Service
The trust is the focus for Neurophysiology services in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. In addition to the services provided for patients with diseases and injuries of the nervous system at the centre, the trust provides Neurophysiology services to many of the neighbouring hospitals. The centre manages comprehensive neurophysiology services at the University Hospital, Coventry. The model of service for Neurophysiology is based on a hub and spoke network principle, similar to that adopted by the University Hospital Coventry for its neurology services. Routine EEG and EMG investigations are performed at University Hospital Coventry for the surrounding population, with provision for more specialist investigations to be undertaken at the centre. Long term Video (Inpatient) and ambulatory EEG services are also provided.
N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities.
Main Duties of the Job
Teaching and supervision of the specialist registrars is an important part of the role, as specialist registrars are often attached to the clinics.
Reporting sessions for EEGs will include standard outpatient EEGs, ambulatory, and long-term inpatient video EEGs. Sufficient time will be allocated for checking and approving reports within the session. Some reporting sessions may also include evoked responses, mainly VER, ERGs, and EP studies.
Audit and Continuing Medical Education are important parts of the post. The trust supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and support for these activities. It is expected that the post holder will participate in the interdepartmental assessments of practice (EEG Reporting, EMG studies, etc.). It is also expected that the post holder will undertake specific audits into their own practice. It is a requirement that they undergo an annual appraisal and attend mandatory health and safety (ALS) training.
In addition to the commitment to teach and supervise the specialist registrars, it is expected that the post holder will also participate in teaching the student and qualified physiologists within the department and those attached from other units. There is also a teaching programme for other junior medical staff within the University Hospital and medical students.
