Student Practice Education Facilitator, Band 6

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 Midwife to support our Student Midwives by providing both practical and clinical support. The Student Practice Education Facilitator role is a fabulous opportunity for a Midwife to develop professional practice, support with education and training, gain leadership and management experience, and to link with our partner Higher Education Institutes (HEI's).
Gloucestershire Hospitals work in close collaboration with Universities to prepare our future workforce. The main purpose of this job role is to work closely with the Universities, the students that are placed in our maternity unit (including T-level students/Apprentice students and MSc students) and our practice supervisors, assessors and senior management team to develop quality assured placements and maximise support for all involved.
The role is 37.5 hours a week.
Main duties of the job
Focused lead for students placed in our maternity services, our midwifery practice supervisors and practice assessors and main link to our partner HEI's.
This will be achieved by:
1. Collaborating with the midwifery senior management team and area clinical leads to review clinical placement opportunities and capacity.
2. Supporting clinical teams to trial new practice supervision models such as CLiP coaching models.
3. Providing professional support and facilitation for unit managers / team leaders, practice educators to provide quality work-based placements to enable staff to develop the right skills, values and behaviours to deliver high quality, safe patient care.
4. Working collaboratively with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Job responsibilities
1. Welcome new cohorts of students and provide a localised induction to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and our maternity services.
2. Maintain regular contact with all T-level students/Apprentice students, Midwifery and MSc students through clinical placements and group sessions.
3. Facilitate local teaching sessions for students as requested.
4. Involve students in maternity education and learning opportunities.
5. Support teaching on maternity mandatory training days.
6. Facilitate local simulation training.
7. Coordinate allocation of Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors.
8. Review student placement feedback and respond accordingly.
9. Support the recruitment process of Midwives.
10. Ensure placement capacity in clinical area is well utilised and maximised.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Active registration with the NMC as a registered Midwife
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor qualification
Experience
* Previous experience in a leadership role
* Previous experience of training
* Previous experience of leading a project or change initiative
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Able to prioritise own workload and manage complexity.
* Excellent presentational, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong, professional leadership qualities.
* Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff.
