Materials Manager
Location: Northwest region
Type: Permanent/Hybrid
Salary: £50,000 - £80,000 per annum plus package (negotiable subject to experience)
A leading civil engineering company with extensive experience in coastal defence, energy and renewables, waste management & highways is seeking a commercially minded Materials Manager to join permanently to identify and source specified materials (such as crushed rock, mixed concrete) for significant groundwork projects. The ideal candidate must demonstrate ability to classify materials with a thorough understanding of testing requirements. As such a quarrying or mining background could be beneficial.
This flexible hybrid role offers a good work life balance & you will be a core member of the senior team in implementing suitable QA procedures for the supply.
Responsibilities:
• Extensive background and experience in the identification of sourcing of specified materials such as crushed rock, ready mixed concrete, precast concrete, rock armour and bituminous.
• Liaising with client on specification of materials, exploitation of identified borrow pit reserves and all initial pre-contract evaluation of ground investigations.
• Oversee all quarry operations in proximity to project sites ensuring surplus materials generated are disposed safely and in accordance with regulations.
• Proficient in HSEQ management systems, including ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001
• Oversee the in-house quarrying division and coordinating contract-based crushed rock production for commercial quarries.
• Procurement and commissioning of onsite concrete batching facilities
What we require from you:
• 3 years’ experience working in s similar capacity for a leading civil engineering firm.
• Proven onsite and offsite track record of procuring and supplying heavy construction materials to budget.
• Ability to classify heavy construction materials with an in-depth understanding of testing requirements.
• Level 3 Award in Geotechnical Knowledge for Mineral Processing Operations. beneficial
• Landfill Site Management (WAMITAB) certification. Beneficial
• CSCS Card
• Professional membership in the Institute of Quarrying (MIQ), participation in the IOQ CPD scheme, or affiliation with any other recognized accrediting body will be taken into consideration.
This role will be ideal for a commercially sound professional with a genuine interest in procuring heavy materials for quarrying and civil engineering operations. You will be working closely with an experienced Senior Materials Manager.
