What it's like to work here Reporting to the Collections & House Manager, you’ll be part of a team of seven at Beningbrough. You'll be supervising five part-time Collections Assistants, as well as a team of volunteers. You'll occasionally work across the York portfolio at Treasurer’s House and Goddards, where needed. You’ll work closely with the Visitor Experience team and also have involvement with elements of our exhibitions programme, including installation, de-installation, environmental control and condition reporting. There will be the opportunity to attend training in preventive conservation, collections management, volunteer management and there will be opportunities to be closely involved in the planned collections review and the re-presentation of the ground floor. You’ll be part of the duty management team at Beningbrough, so will develop strong operational knowledge and skills. Click here for more information about this location What you'll be doing As the Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for opening the house every day, and making sure there are enough people in the right places to give visitors a consistently good experience. You'll be responsible for routine conservation, preventive conservation and the annual programme of deep cleaning. Your attention and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house. You'll collect and record information gathered during cleaning and housekeeping, to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that’s in it. You’ll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors. As part of the duty management rota, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that Beningbrough is able to open to visitors safely and that operations are running as smoothly as possible to ensure a high level of service. You’ll lead for presentation and service standards and maintain communication with all departments. As duty manager, you'll be the main point of contact for any issues arising throughout the day, which might include emergency evacuation and making operational decisions with the support of the leadership team. In this role the usual commitment is up to 3 days per month.
