Job Summary
As a ward leader, you will be responsible for providing effective nursing leadership to a team of nurses working in Hawthorn Ward. Hawthorn Ward is an acute medical ward with 30 beds. The post holder will provide their ward/department with a professional focus for leadership and clinical excellence. The post holder will take continuing, 24 hour/7 days per week responsibility for the assessment of needs for the service, staff, and patients which includes assessment of training, learning, and development needs of all ward/department staff. The post holder will act as a role model for clinical leadership; setting and upholding agreed clinical standards and enabling patients to receive high-quality evidence-based care. They will be a visible presence for all patients and visitors to the area and provide a pivotal role for inter-professional working. They will be responsible for infection prevention and control, budget management, patient safety and experience, compliance with Trust values, policies, and providing Best Possible Care.
Main duties of the job
1. Leads as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the team.
2. Communicates proactively with all staff on the clinical condition and treatment plan of patients and ensures accurate nursing records are maintained by all staff.
3. Leads the team in the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of care of patients admitted to the Ward/department in accordance with Trust and directorate pathways.
4. Actively involves others in communications between patients, their relatives, and the multi-disciplinary team both within the organization and with external stakeholders to ensure excellent communication.

Job Description
Job responsibilities include:
* Has in-depth knowledge of infection control policies, with practical experience and principles in relation to the clinical environment, patient care, the prevention of cross-infection, outbreak management, good hand hygiene, and environmental cleaning.
* Actively involves patients, relatives, and carers in their treatment and encourages staff to facilitate and enable individuals to assist in their own recovery.
* Contributes to and oversees the safe and effective discharge planning of patients informing the discharge team of issues and patient/relative requirements/requests.
* Lead Pathway to Excellence philosophy and Workstreams to support standards.
* Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families, and carers.
* Responsible for 24-hour management and leadership of designated ward/departments maintaining an appropriate management style that maintains good morale, a team approach to work, and a culture which fosters innovation and change.
* Sets and maintains high standards of nursing care for the ward, including ward cleanliness, nutrition, etc., are maintained so that the patients' experience is excellent.

* With due regard to Risk Management policies and procedures, uses local data to ensure the environment is safe for patients, relatives, carers, and staff.

Person Specification
Training (Essential)
* Registered Nurse with Current Registration
* Mentorship/Teaching qualification.
* Educated to degree level or equivalent.
* Evidence of continuing clinical and professional development.
