About the role:
As a member of the fast-paced and highly motivated JCB Service operational purchasing team, reporting directly to the Senior Buyer, the role is responsible for working with production component and critical indirect suppliers in order to sustain a level of operational performance that satisfies Aftermarket business expectations. The role is primarily responsible for the continuous improvement of Quality, Capability, Warranty and Delivery with the supply base. A key element of the role is therefore to ensure the timely and robust resolution to escalated problems.
What does this role involve day to day?
1. Supplier Performance & Delivery: Assess and drive an improvement programme with Service Only Suppliers to help them reach and maintain the required level of performance.
2. Work with Group SDE's to ensure that all service delivery & capacity demands are being shared with Current to production suppliers and escalated to achieve satisfactory resolutions.
3. Mitigate potential risk to the business as a consequence of poor performing suppliers.
4. Build relationships at appropriate levels within the organisation to support the effective closure of any escalated quality or delivery issues.
5. Work with the Purchasing Sustainability Champion and support relevant Sustainability & Environmental initiatives.
6. You will also be responsible to ensure that parts are sourced considering the total cost of ownership, where you will be challenging suppliers over several fundamental criteria such as: Lead-Times, Cost, Quality, MOQ’s and their Reliability.
7. The role has several key work-streams, and a large portion of the role operates on SAP, where having the ability to learn new systems quickly is vital, and experience of previously using the system is preferable.
This will be suited to you if:
1. You are an experienced purchasing professional.
2. You have purchasing accreditations.
3. You have experience in Supplier negotiation.
4. You have knowledge of Lean manufacturing process/systems.
5. Graduate calibre in manufacturing or engineering, with particular emphasis on quality management, materials management, and lean manufacturing.
6. Preferably with professional qualifications – Six sigma certification to Green Belt level is preferred.
