Description Description for Internal Candidates Wood is looking for talented CAD Technicians/Operators to join Transmission & Distribution (T&D) UK Ltd’s Engineering/Design team as part of our ongoing growth which is not just tied to single projects. The positions are based in our UK offices or offer a hybrid working option based on your expertise and our project needs. While we may place you in any of our UK offices, candidates open to working from Horsham or Glasgow may receive preference. Your involvement will directly help contribute to the expansion of network capacity crucial for fulfilling the UK government's 2030 objectives, Great British Energy’s mission and the pivotal transition to a sustainable, net-zero future. Reporting to the CAD Supervisor, you will use CAD systems to produce electronic technical drawings which can be used as design plans for construction. You will help prepare estimates for costings and will be responsible for a variety of drafting tasks under supervision. You will apply your CAD techniques to develop working drawings, within T&D and industry standards and codes, from equipment specifications and detailed drawings. Candidates with experience of producing 3-D drawings, cross sections and route maps are viewed as advantageous and we will consider those with a civils/highways-roads/rail background. Additionally, individuals with a background in graphic design who can demonstrate their interest in developing a CAD skillset in underground cables and overhead lines and who are enthusiastic about developing their career within the Transmission and Distribution sector are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities What You Will Do: Discuss designs with the engineering/ design team, following instructions for developing a design, working from a computer model of the item, or changing detailed diagrams so they can be easily followed. Take physical mark ups from engineers and create drawings. Work as part of a small team assigned to a specific area of a project under supervision. Produce 3D and 2D drawings (solid and surface modelling). Understand equations, calculations, and written instructions from designers/ engineers before beginning a CAD drawing. Use notations and symbols to give instructions on drawings and blueprints. Revise drawings based on instructions from engineers/ designers. May visit sites to collect data for drawings. Provide technical drafting support, plot data from direction, and compile engineering data from drawings or field notes. Create as built or revised designs from existing drawings as requested. Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Minimum ISCED (International Standard Classification of Education) level 3 (Upper Secondary/High School diploma or equivalent) as a minimum; and/ or ISCED Level 4 (post-secondary non-tertiary) or 5 preferred (short-cycle tertiary or equivalent). Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of AutoCAD drafting/modelling software; some level of expertise in producing CAD outputs with packages including, but not restricted to AutoCAD and / or MicroStation. Previous experience in civil engineering projects using Civil 3D civil engineering design software is desirable although not essential. Familiarity with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within Engineering. Basic appreciation of construction methods and manufacturing processes; and solid understanding of engineering drawing and principles. Capable of gathering dimensional and technical data from operating facility. Drafting skills that require only moderate supervision. Be able to accurately convert information into two dimensional drawings with attention to detail. Multi-tasking skills to effectively deliver projects and drawings, and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines.
