Role Overview
* Position: Volunteer Lead Educator (Part-Paid self employed/contractor)
* Term: Fixed-term, part-time (Summer 2025)
* Location: BuzzWorks Discovery Centre, Old Hale Way Allotments, Hitchin
* Compensation: £80 per session (up to 12 sessions, maximum £1000 total)
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to planning, organizing, and delivering educational visits and activities at the BuzzWorks Discovery Centre.
* Collaborate with a small team of volunteers to develop engaging lesson plans and ensure necessary resources are available.
* Maintain clean and well-resourced facilities for visits.
* Lead educational sessions for visiting groups, particularly young children.
* Lead running small group activities during the summer months.
Qualifications
* Strong ability to engage with young children (5 years+).
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Enthusiasm for environmental education.
* Knowledge of bees sufficient to teach at KS2 level.
* Experience in leading educational sessions and activities.
Note: Training will be provided for candidates with enthusiasm but limited bee knowledge.
Time Commitment and Compensation
* Delivery of sessions each of approx. 3 hours each (paid) plus a minimum of 1 hour preparation time (unpaid) to ensure that volunteer rotas are in place to support the education and safeguarding requirements of the session.
* Typically sessions are booked around availability. We expect an average of 12 session bookings across May to October.
* Contribute to vital work in educating and inspiring young children about bees and the environment.
* Gain invaluable experience and personal development in a bee-friendly apiary setting.

About Buzzworks Association Hitchin
We host visits to our BuzzWorks Discovery Centre off Old Hale Way, Hitchin, where you can enjoy the bee-friendly garden, bee exhibition and watch the bees at work.
We also support local beekeepers and provide training courses for new and improver beekeepers at our larger Honeyworks Beekeeping Centre, off Burford Way, Hitchin.
