Main duties of the job
The Cellular Pathology department provides service to a large population across Norfolk and Waveney, as part of the Eastern Pathology Alliance. We are based at the Cotman Centre, located walking distance from Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, the sixth largest Acute Trust in the UK, and the University of East Anglia.
We have a varied professional practice, with nearly 100,000 surgical pathology cases handled annually. The department also provides non-gynaecological cytology services. Staff are encouraged to mix clinical work with undergraduate and postgraduate training and research opportunities. Recent service developments include Prostate AI and state-of-the-art digital pathology technology reporting.
The service is expanding considerably in 2025, meaning there are 5 new posts available for talented and driven individuals to join our diverse and highly experienced team of 27 Consultants and BMS reporters.

Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration with a license to practice required at time of application.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration with a license to practice on Specialist registration or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* FRCPath or equivalent.
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and support staff.
* Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.
* Previous responsibility for service improvement.
Experience
* Applicants who are Nationals from a European country or elsewhere further overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.

* Commitment to develop an appropriate special interest.
Commitment to clinical governance / improving quality of patient care
* Clinical governance: Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems. Demonstrates awareness of good decision making. Aware of own limitations. Track record of engaging in clinical governance: reporting errors, learning from errors.

* Teaching: evidence of interest and experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and mentoring laboratory staff undertaking specimen dissection.
