At Teaching Personnel, we are working closely with successful secondary schools and colleges in the Newcastle area with support staff vacancies. Many of our client schools have shown an interest in Psychology graduates for these roles, as they often have an interest in behaviour supported by academic theory, but also understand the importance of both well-being and additional learning needs.
These type of roles provide the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a school setting for future career progression into teaching or working with children and young people for example Education Psychology courses or clinical courses
You will liaise with the school SENCO and support team as well as the school's study centre supervisor. Any graduates from an English, Maths or Science degree background or those confident in supporting students at high school age (11 - 16 years old) are also encouraged to apply. There will be plenty of continuous professional development opportunities with the successful Graduate TA being employed on a full time basis from January 6th until July if applicable.
Key aspects of the Graduate Teaching Assistant position:
- Pay will be dependent upon experience but range between £1400 - £1700 per month dependent upon confirmed hours and experience
- Opportunity to gain more experience and assist at a supportive secondary school
- Graduate TA required on a full time basis from Monday 6th January
- Potential chance to start sooner this side of Christmas if applicable and available
What we look for:
- Be able to communicate effectively with other staff and students, monitoring developments and progress and bring an ambitious personality to the school environment
- Be composed, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour and situations
- Have transferable skills and a genuine interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs
- Be able to show a patient and understanding attitude towards all of the students' needs and circumstances
As part of this Teaching Assistant role, you will work with a variety of students as well as support in small group intervention, working with identified students in supporting them with relevant subject material. If you have any specific experience tutoring or in supporting young people, please highlight this on your application and CV as this will be highly desirable to the school.
