Job Summary:
Trident Healthcare are seeking a dedicated and experienced Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join our NHS laboratory team in South Wales on a fixed-term contract until April 2025. The successful candidate will undertake both routine and specialist analyses, perform laboratory procedures, and contribute to high-quality patient care. This position offers the opportunity to work autonomously in a dynamic environment, with supervisory responsibilities and the potential to deputise for senior staff as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform routine and specialist laboratory analyses in line with departmental protocols.
* Carry out duties that align with the training and qualifications of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
* Work autonomously, ensuring the accurate release and authorisation of completed results, which can directly impact patient care.
* Supervise and support less experienced scientific and technical staff, as well as laboratory support staff, providing guidance and training where necessary.
* Conduct Performance Appraisal and Development Reviews (PADR) for less experienced staff or trainees, contributing to their professional development.
* Deputise for more senior staff members during short-term absences, ensuring continuity in laboratory operations.
* Participate in a rotating shift pattern covering 08:00 – 20:15, 7 days a week, including non-resident on-call duties overnight.
Essential Criteria:
* HCPC registration as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist.
* Relevant UK experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with the ability to work independently.
* Experience supervising or training staff.
* Competence in performing, interpreting, and authorising laboratory tests.
Desirable Criteria:
* Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
* Experience in conducting PADRs
