Job summary
We are a small but friendly team consisting of a clinical lead psychologist, one psychotherapist, one senior occupational therapist with additionalpsychological therapy training as a trauma sensitive yoga instructor, who work alongside an assistant psychologist and an assistant practitionerand two Senior Mental Health Nurses, provide therapeutic input to prisoners at HMP Norwich.
We offer therapeutic approaches in DBT and CBT as well as having an established trauma pathway in which trauma sensitive yoga is a solidfeature. We work with prisoners who self-harm, have attempted suicide, experience high levels of anxiety or trauma/PTSD. We also work withprisoners who may be supported by an ACCT (self harm document). We are looking to further develop the service around reduction of violenceand working with complex cases residing in seclusion.
Main duties of the job
As an assistant practitioner, you will be expected to assist with running groups with a range of disciplines, carrying out jointassessments with staff, assisting with writing formulations and discharge reports, inputting into MDT's and taking responsibility for your own work.
You may also be expected to work 1:1 with prisoners in delivering interventions under supervision. In addition, you will be invited to attend and contribute to ongoing referral meetings and discussions and engage in regular clinical supervision to access support and continue developing your expertise.
We also work closely with the NSFT mental health in reach team, the IAPT/Wellbeing team and the wider IMHJP and secure and Forensicservices care group and are building links with the prison. Some of this work will involve training the prison staff on therapeutic interventions aswell as mental health conditions. This will allow skills taught at day care to be transferred back to the wings with the prisoners feeling confidentthat the regime staff will have some understanding of coping strategies they are trying to use.
