MEng CEng MIET ACGI | Reservoir Supervising Engineer | Director at CC Hydrodynamics
This is a UK role. Applications made by those not physically based in the UK will be automatically rejected.
CCI is an award winning SME which focusses on intelligent surveys and data processing for the civil and structural engineering sectors within the UK. Our focus is primarily on aging and deteriorating infrastructure, and many of our existing clients fall within the water, energy and transport sectors. CCI was recently a finalist in the first cohort of the Manchester Prize, having already developed an AI product which can be used to identify and track defects in large structures.
We are looking for a 3D modeller who can assist us with a critical part of our usual workflow, which is turning photographic and video data into 3D models, which can then be further processed into deliverables for our clients. We typically use Pix4D Mapper and 3DF Zephyr for these operations due to their ability to produce orthomosaics in a format and orientation that is most useful to us.
While listed as 'hybrid', the role will initially be mostly remote. This is because CCI currently lacks commercial premises. We are currently considering premises (offices/workshops) in Sunderland (Tyne and Wear) and High Wycombe (Buckinghamshire). Applicants should ensure that they would be happy to travel to these locations on a regular basis (perhaps 2 days a week) once one of these locations is established.
CCI is still a lean start up. We do not always need the applicant to be working on photogrammetric survey work. We are keen to support an applicant who has interest or wishes to develop their own skills in the following fields; programming, data analysis, robotics and prototyping, data collection, machine learning and AI. We support 'bright ideas' - as long as there is a clear business use case, we are happy to help an applicant bring their good ideas to real life.
We currently work on a wide range of different monitoring and defect identification projects. We are working with dams, bridges, tunnels, and internal spaces with a wide variety of structural media.
Hard Skills
An applicant must have the following skills to be considered for the role:
* A relevant educational qualification (surveying, digital media, physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics), preferably one which provides a route to MRICS or membership/chartership with other relevant engineering institutions.
* At least 2 years of experience working as a 3D modeller, preferably in the civil and structural engineering sectors.
* Have some experience with photogrammetry processes
* Have some experience using standard Office applications such as Microsoft Office.
Soft Skills
The following are traits that we look for in a successful application:
* Versatile - we don't always have a large amount of photogrammetry or 3D modelling work to do. A successful applicant should be willing to work on other relevant work, such as data analysis, programming and software development, or data collection.
* Willing to learn - we don't expect the applicant to already know how to do everything when they start. We are looking for an applicant who is keen to learn new skills which are relevant to our operation, and can preferably demonstrate some level of autonomy in their approach to learning new skills. CCI can provide access to learning resources.
* Team player - we are only an SME. Sometimes, we all have to muck in on some jobs.
* Work remotely, work on site, work in an office - A successful applicant will need to be able to work from home (remotely) at the outset of the position. This means that the applicant should have an appropriate space (i.e. a desk, or at least space for one) which can be used solely for work related activities. We often work on site visits, so a successful applicant should be willing and able to travel within the UK to assist with these data collection missions. And in the near future, CCI is looking to get premises - a successful applicant will be willing to work from one of these locations.
* Site experience - not essential, but beneficial if an applicant can demonstrate some knowledge of safe working practices on civil infrastructure sites. Necessary training will be provided as part of the role.
Other requirements
* Rights to work - an applicant who is not a UK Citizen must demonstrate that they have the right to work.
* Security vetting - any successful applicant will be asked to sign a document stating that they know of no reason why they might fail a security vetting process. We work with sensitive national infrastructure - security vetting may occur relatively soon once the job commences. If an applicant thinks that something in their past may affect a vetting exercise, then this should be brought to CCI's attention prior to accepting the position so that it may be considered further.
