The post holder will be a senior member of the Genetics Informatics team providing an information service to key stakeholders and information users within the Service.
The role is customer orientated with strong links to operational and decision-making areas within the Trust. The post holder will provide a critical function supporting the development of transformation of data into information. From assisting in projects to supporting with ad hoc queries, the post holder will be part of how the informatics service will mature.
This post requires specialist technical knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Products, MS SQL and other relevant Business Intelligence technologies in order to provide the analytical function.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide specialist technical expertise and support across a range of Information and Technology (IM&T) areas in the Genetics service, including but not limited to: the current department IT system (Starlims), applications, data analysis, information reporting, and information governance. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The post holder will assist in the provision of Genomic services using informatics, data analysis and the management of departmental IT systems to facilitate smooth running of the department and the Southwest Genomic Laboratory Hub (SWGLH), which is led by North Bristol NHS Trust.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
1 The post holder will support SWGLH colleagues, by
1. Providing Specialist Technical Support:
2. Investigate and resolve complex IM&T issues, including system errors, security breaches, and user requirements.
3. Analyze and interpret data to identify trends and inform decision-making.
4. Develop and deliver specialized training programs on complex IM&T topics.
5. Design, develop, and adapt complex software, web pages, and information reports.
Strategic Planning & Project Management
1. Contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of IM&T solutions within specialized areas.
2. Manage and deliver IM&T projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Policy & Service Development
1. Contribute to the development and implementation of IM&T policies and procedures.
2. Propose and implement changes to services and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Technical Expertise & Support
1. Maintain a high level of expertise in relevant technologies and industry best practices.
2. Provide technical guidance and support to other team members and stakeholders.
3. Ensure the proper and safe use of IT equipment and resources.
4. Develop and create reports of the data stored within the laboratory information management system (LIMS) using specialist business intelligence software (e.g. Crystal reports).
5. Provide expert assistance in the production of all activity information, including statutory/mandatory NHSE return.
6. Optimising and maintaining the current departmental IT solution (STAR LIMS).
7. Management of data and cloud infrastructure.
8. Creating or tailoring reporting solutions to further develop a dashboard functionality.
9. Advising on issues of data standards and quality as necessary.
10. Tailoring the current LIMS to meet NHSE KPIs and quality improvements.
Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
1. Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience.
2. Significant experience of working in an information management environment and in managing the production of data analysis and data sets.
3. Experienced in data interrogation using SQL, developing data queries for analysis and reporting.
Desirable criteria
1. Evidenced ability to consult on and develop user-facing dashboard solutions, e.g., applying PowerBI, Qlik Sense or Tableau.
2. Evidenced ability to develop data flows from production systems to data warehouse.
3. Applied experience in project management methodologies.
