Job Overview: The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust is responsible for ensuring that the population of the Greater Belfast area (approximately 340,000) receives a comprehensive range of mental health services both secondary and tertiary. The Psychiatry of Old Age service focuses on those over 65 years – currently approximately 55,000 people. The provision of Mental Health Services within the Belfast HSC Trust is currently undergoing modernisation and development to meet service needs and improve quality of care (“Outpatient Modernisation”). This will involve a move to team-based working by doctors rather than alignment to geographical areas. There is a strong community-based ethos and well-developed multi-disciplinary methods of working. The post-holder will participate in the delivery of the Community Psychiatry of Old Age Service to the West Belfast POA sector. The Consultant will ensure delivery of a high-quality service to his/her patients in line with the Trust’s key strategic objectives. This will involve a close working relationship with in particular consultant colleagues, managers, and community staff. In 2023 there were 303 new patient referrals to the West Belfast sector consultant, who delivered 184 new appointments and 338 reviews. The ratio of new and review appointments at clinic are flexible and can be reviewed by the consultant subject to service requirements.
