Design Manager – NHS Construction Location: Head Office-Based (North West) Reports to: Senior Design Manager Package negotiable. Role Overview The Design Manager oversees the full design lifecycle of NHS healthcare construction projects, ensuring compliance with HTM, HBN, and NHS regulatory standards. The role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, mitigating risks, and delivering cost-effective, efficient designs from concept to site implementation. Key Responsibilities Design Coordination and Compliance Lead design teams, ensuring collaboration between NHS Trusts, consultants, and contractors. Identify and mitigate risks related to infection control, patient safety, fire strategy, and clinical functionality. Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements, including ventilation, zoning, accessibility, and fire safety. Cost and Programme Management Control design-related costs and align with NHS funding frameworks such as Procure22 and NHS SBS. Develop and manage an integrated design programme to ensure efficiency and prevent delays. BIM and Digital Construction Implement BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 methodologies to improve design coordination and clash detection. Utilize CDE platforms such as 4P and Aconex for document management and real-time design tracking. Pre-Construction and Tender Support Review NHS tender documents, assess feasibility, and analyze project costs. Support technical bid submissions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Daily Objectives Lead design meetings, resolve queries, and review clinical layouts. Monitor document control systems to ensure stakeholders have the latest information.
