Job overview
We are recruiting for 2 x band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapists to work within Children's Speech and Language Therapy in Knowsley Community Paediatric Service. 1 x WTE post is permanent and 1 x WTE is a secondment or fixed term for 12 months.
You will be responsible for ensuring service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care, working collaboratively in a variety of settings including patients' homes, schools, nurseries, children’s centres, and clinics.
You will be supported to provide assessment and appropriate interventions in the management of paediatric conditions, offering a range of 1:1 and group-based interventions, training, and programmes of care.
Caseloads are likely to include children and young people with a range of speech, language, and communication needs.

Main duties of the job
1. Undertake assessment in a variety of clinical settings.
2. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the evidence base and a range of treatment options to formulate individualised and holistic treatment programmes within the parameters of the service.
3. Evaluate patient progress, reassess, and alter treatment programmes seeking support from senior colleagues within the team.
4. Demonstrate flexibility to respond to the needs of the service and be responsible for a designated area of work.
5. Plan and organise efficiently and effectively your patient/client caseload and non-patient responsibilities.
6. Contribute to the continuing professional development within the team accessing learning opportunities and sharing knowledge with colleagues.
7. Participate in the annual Personal Achievement Contribution Evaluation (PACE).
8. Willingness to travel in the course of performing duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
CLINICAL
1. Utilise a variety of formal, informal, observational, and play-based assessment tools and interpret these appropriately.
2. Implement care/intervention based on research and demonstrate evidence-based practice.
3. Maintain an early years and school-aged caseload.
4. Provide professional clinical advice and demonstrate intervention approaches to patients, carers, and colleagues.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE / RESEARCH AUDIT
1. Demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
2. Assist in developing a continuous improvement and evidence-based culture within the Service.
COMMUNICATION
1. Communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise potential and ensure understanding of their condition and goals.
2. Communicate effectively with all those involved in patient care, including report writing and referrals.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* Accredited Speech and Language Therapy qualification (BSc)
* Registration with relevant Registering Body e.g. HCPC
* Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
EXPERIENCE
* Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary Team.
* Experience with provision of supervision and delegation to junior members of staff.
* Driving Licence and Basic IT Skills (Microsoft Software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams).
* Experience of working in mainstream schools and specialist provisions.
SKILLS
* Good time management and organizational skills.
* Flexible approach towards service change, demands, and pressure.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision (to students or SaLT staff).
KNOWLEDGE
* Exposure to local, National, professional policies/guidance.
* Awareness of own scope of practice and that of others.
OTHER
* Demonstrate a commitment to respecting and displaying the Trust Values at all times.
* Willingness to travel in the course of performing duties.
