The Opportunity
This is an 18-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave with a period of handover and back.
The main purpose of the NPD Manager role is to own and develop the innovation pipeline in line with the business needs. You will be creating briefs with innovation ideas, based on consumer data and market trends.
The NPD Manager will bring products to life from concept through to launch. You will work alongside other teams in and outside of the business, including production, quality, regulatory, marketing, sales, supply chain, and contract manufacturers.
What will you get up to?
1. Identification of innovation opportunities by staying on top of ingredient trends and consumer needs.
2. Development and implementation of the 3-4 year innovation pipeline – including alignment of key stakeholders (CEO and Directors).
3. Value engineering existing formulations to deliver improved profit margins without compromising on efficacy or consumer product satisfaction.
4. Reformulating when ingredients are discontinued, ensuring previous quality, efficacy, and profitability requirements are met.
5. Support the wider team with product training and innovation days.
6. Work with the contract manufacturer lab development teams to develop samples by providing them with a comprehensive brief.
7. Carry out competitor product analysis, market research analysis, and clinical research reviews to support product development.
8. Champion recipe creation and all documentation throughout the concept-to-launch process, including recipes, submission forms, QAS/CQMs, launch folders, and factory paperwork.
9. Responsible for sourcing new ingredients, fit for purpose for the design, customer, country, and site requirements, and costs. Be the first point of contact for basic information such as specification, MOQ, and lead times during the development process before handing over to supply chain.
10. Research new ways to produce and improve the quality and stability of products, developing protocols in tandem with the quality manager.
11. Drive cross-departmental working through all stages of the NPD process in line with the stage gate process.
12. Understand what is legally required as part of a product information file (PIF) and collate documents to create PIFs where necessary.
13. Responsible for artwork checks using Asana software in line with country-specific legal requirements.
14. Be the Responsible Person in keeping the CPNP and SCNP portals up to date for all cosmetic products.
15. Keep up to date with changes to legislations in key markets and ensure product formulations and packaging reflect those amendments – UK, EU, and US.
Minimum Requirements:
1. BSc degree in biology, biomedical sciences, or nutrition.
2. Minimum 4 years’ experience in the nutritional industry.
3. Formulation experience of nutritional supplements required.
4. Formulation experience of cosmetic products advantageous but not necessary.
5. Lab experience not necessary, but preferable.
6. Confident and comfortable with presenting, sharing ideas, listening to feedback, and engaging with customers to better understand the customer experience as part of the development process.
7. Self-motivating, being able to work independently and as part of a team.
8. Excellent time management and project management skills.
