Job summary
Cellular pathology at Buckshealthcare NHS Trust, based at High Wycombe, is looking for a dedicated, competent, self-motivated medical laboratory assistant (MLA) to join our friendly team.
To assist the cellular Pathology department to provide a high quality and effective service to users.
Assisting the Biomedical scientists and Andrology team in the provision of all aspects of specimen processing within Cellular Pathology.
Working alongside the team to ensure efficient workflow through the department.
Rotating through the areas within the Cellular Pathology department, where necessary, to train internally to acquire the knowledge and skills and abilities to perform tasks as required.
Meeting patients arriving with Andrology specimens and answering queries over the telephone. Attention to detail is paramount to this post.
Main duties of the job
* This post offers a variety of duties working within the main histology laboratory performing duties.
* Take part in laboratory rota for special procedures - cut up, immunocytochemistry (ICC), immunofluorescence (IMF), OSNA and special stains, main Lab, throw-out and Digital Pathology.
* Digital Pathology is being implemented within the department and the duties of this post will be to ensure consistency of quality of workload being scanned for digital imaging by the pathologists.

* Good written and verbal communication skills to enable liaison with hospital staff and to ensure accurate recording of specimens.

* Science Degree which is not accredited by Health Professions Council or evidence of study at professional level.
