Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to December 2026 This post will be based within the Mehanna Head and Neck research group which is part of the Department of Cancer and Genomic Sciences. The Mehanna Head and Neck research group consists of 10 members that work on various aspects of head and neck cancer and thyroid research activities under the direction of Professor Hisham Mehanna. As a Project Officer, the post holder will help coordinate several multi-centre, multi-national research projects. This post will work alongside other team members working on thyroid and head and neck cancer research. Strong project management skills, the ability to ‘multi-task’ and effective communication skills are a must in this role. Some experience coordinating clinical studies/projects is also desirable. Role summary As a Project Officer within the Mehanna Head and Neck research group you will work on coordinating and/or supporting international thyroid and head and neck cancer research projects. You will work with a range of internal and external collaborators and will be responsible for keeping projects on track, communicating with collaborators, setting timelines, and preparing project documents and protocols. Additional responsibilities include: following up with collaborators and others; establishing online and other systems for data and feedback collection; helping coordinate collaborator meetings in the UK and abroad; coordinating project results and final document writing activities. You will be able to use your wide range of skills, both technical and administrative, and may have the opportunity to lead on specific tasks within the team. In order to flexibly use resource you may be asked to work elsewhere in the department or across the wider University. Main duties Project Officers will manage smaller projects in their entirety or manage elements of larger projects or assist in the management of one or more larger projects through the provision of well-developed and timely project management support. You will be expected to work proactively, and use your initiative and planning skills to set your own priorities to ensure progress is maintained as expected, identify any issue and propose solutions. To support Research Project delivery, Project Boards, workstreams and working groups within an overall project or manage elements of larger projects or smaller projects on your own. Support may include some or all of the following: carrying out project planning activities; arranging meetings in the UK and abroad for collaborators Communicating with project team members and collaborators. Contribute to developing communications plans, presentations, and promoting the projects and outcomes of projects/workstreams. Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications). Where no equivalent qualification is held, significant practical relevant experience and expertise in a similar role will be required. Significant practical experience in a similar role, experience of using project management tools. Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly, and to analyse information and data.
