Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Electrician to join our Traffic Scotland Infrastructure Contract (TSIC) in Cumbernauld, Glasgow.
Our TSIC account is working in partnership with Traffic Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland since 2004. We are responsible for, maintaining, and upgrading all the Traffic Scotland roadside monitoring and control infrastructure.
To provide the service, we handle and process asset data and information from multiple sources, and produce numerous reports to assist the contract team, customer, and operational partners to make informed decisions pertaining to the management of the infrastructure.
The standard hours of work are Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, 08:30am – 16:30pm.
The Highways Electrician is responsible to ensure the safety, functionality, and compliance of electrical systems on Scotland's highways. This includes the regular testing, inspection, and certification of ITS infrastructure, such as Variable Message Signs, CCTV, Traffic Monitoring and Overhead Gantries in accordance with BS 7671.
What does the role involve?
Electrical Testing & Inspection: Perform routine testing and inspection of highway electrical installations to ensure compliance with BS 7671 wiring regulations and other relevant standards.
Certification: Produce and maintain up-to-date test certificates, inspection reports, and ensure that all electrical installations are documented and certified in line with industry standards.
Fault Diagnosis & Repairs: Conduct fault-finding and rectification works on electrical systems, using test equipment to identify issues and provide immediate solutions.
Preventative Maintenance: Carry out planned preventative maintenance and electrical condition reporting on highway infrastructure to pre-empt any potential issues or faults.
Compliance Audits: Assist in audits and safety inspections to ensure compliance with National Highway Sector Schemes (NHSS) and Health & Safety standards.
Installation Support: When required, assist in the installation of new electrical infrastructure on highways, ensuring all work is tested and inspected upon completion.
Collaborative Work: Coordinate with maintenance teams, contractors, and local authorities to schedule inspections and work to minimise disruption to road users.
Record-Keeping: Accurately log all testing, inspection results, and any corrective actions taken. Keep clear, detailed records in both electronic and paper formats as required.
Emergency Response: Respond to urgent breakdowns, performing immediate testing and repairs to restore electrical systems in a timely and safe manner.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all work complies with relevant health and safety legislation, and follows best practices for working on active highways, including adherence to traffic management protocols.
What are we looking for?
Extensive experience of working on electrical systems, preferably within a highways environment
Experience in Periodic Testing & Inspection is essential.
You will have strong technical knowledge of your field and exposure to a 24/7 reactive maintenance environment
IT abilities, a competent user of Microsoft office and have strong interpersonal skills

Emergency First Aid A full UK driving licence is essential for the successful applicant, as well as able to work at height and within confined spaces.
