What you’ll be doing: BAE Systems Land design and manufacture a wide range of munitions products. It is essential that our products are high quality and totally conform to the customer’s requirements. In the role of a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineering Technician Apprentice you will be involved with a range of recognised NDT methods including ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing and dye penetrant testing. Our business relies on the accuracy of Non-Destructive Testing and therefore the importance of this role cannot be overstated. This role is wide-ranging and has both practical and theoretical elements. As part of your development to a certified Technician you may be expected to carry out actual testing under supervision as well as completing theoretical and academic study. Verification of your understanding in the various elements will be assessed by formal practical and written examination. We will help you develop into a Non-Destructive Testing Technician that delivers safe, capable processes to specified standards. Specific activities could include: Assisting with Non-Destructive Testing related projects. Preparation of NDT written instructions and standard operating procedures. Radiation Protection Supervisor. “Hands on”, supervised testing of munitions component parts. Involvement in the development and installation of new equipment to meet the requirements of the business and the customer. Assisting with awareness training and knowledge improvement in NDT. Ensuring effective liaison with the other functions such as Manufacturing Engineering, Safety, Quality, Procurement and Logistics is used to successfully tackle production issues. Liaison with specialist external test facilities as required for test and validation purposes. Supporting improvement projects in respect of technical issues. What qualification will you get? The Engineering Technical Support qualification you will achieve is: https://acwcerts.co.uk/web/framework/engineering-manufacture The training you will receive is an NDT Level 2 certification, in accordance with national and international standards, in the following methods: Digital X-ray Inspection. The training and examination to obtain the EN4179 Level 2 qualification will be performed off site at the following recognised, accredited NDT training establishments: South West School of NDT.
