This is an exciting opportunity for HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists educated to Masters level with substantive experience in Cervical Cytology to join our busy service.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust hosts the North West Cervical Screening service. Our service really makes a difference to thousands of women across the North West and your drive, enthusiasm and professionalism is what we require to ensure we continue to provide a high quality, safe and efficient service at the forefront of future advances in pathology. The service receives approximately 450,000 samples pa generating approximately 70,000 LBC slides.
We currently have a vacancy for an Advanced BMS Team Lead. To be suitable for this role you will have extensive experience in Cervical Cytology, knowledge of the Cervical Screening Programme and experience of leading a team. The department is committed to developing the Advanced BMS Team with opportunities for operational management training or further study for the Advanced Specialist Diploma in Cervical Cytology for the right candidate.
The post holder will assist the Cervical Cytology management team and will participate in the duty manager rota for operational issues along with other Advanced BMS staff.
The post holder will provide leadership and day to day support to the technical staff and the post holder may be required to take individual responsibility for the day-to-day management of a section or function within the department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead a team of Cytology Screeners, BMS and support staff, ensuring that cervical samples are received, entered on to the LIMS and progressed to Virology for HPV testing, with appropriate cases processed, slides generated and stained for screening, checking and reporting by cytology screeners, Biomedical Scientists, Consultant Biomedical Scientists and the Consultant Cytopathologists. They will have responsibility for the day to day management of the cervical screening service including equipment management, financial management, staff training and supervision and consumables monitoring.
The post-holder will ensure the specialised technical assistance required by Consultants is provided by BMS, Cytology Screeners and MLA staff in the department.
The post-holder will liaise closely with the Cervical Cytology management team, the Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager and Clinical team to ensure provision of a high-quality service.
