1 Patient/Client Care1.1 Be responsible for providing scientific support to the Nuclear Medicine service including:a. Production of scientific/clinical reports on patient investigations that include details of the test procedure and interpretation of the results for communication to referring consultants.b. In collaboration with consultant medical staff, interpret complex patient images and produce clinical reports.c. Providing scientific support to clinical staff, for example in determining whether sufficient data has been obtained during a patient investigation for an accurate diagnosis to be made or whether further images are required.d. Provide expert advice on the imaging protocols utilised within the Nuclear Medicine Service.e. Provide advice on medical exposures to support research applications including radiation dose and risk estimates and dose constraints and patient consent information.f. Provide scientific services in support of radiation dose optimisation in Nuclear Medicine.g. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of, advise on and investigate dose reduction technology and techniques for patients and staff.h. Provide scientific support for environmental, staff and patient radiation dose monitoring in Nuclear Medicine.1.2 Act as Medical Physics Expert, providing expert advice to other health professionals on the analysis and interpretation of test results, the justification, optimisation, and safe use of equipment, the development of new techniques and staff training.1.3 Take part in the relevant committees supporting the Nuclear Medicine Service such as the Ionising Radiation Safety Committee.1.4 Collaborate with medical and other professional staff regarding provision of the service to departments and divisions within the hospital and to other stakeholders.1.5 Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of own specialist area.1.6 Maintain continuing professional development to standards defined by the relevant professional and regulatory bodies.1.7 Maintain registration as a Clinical Scientist. 2 Policy and Service Development2.1 Work with external service providers to support the long term strategic and business planning for the Nuclear Medicine Service in close collaboration with stakeholders supporting the service.2.2 Be responsible for the development and review of policies and procedures for the Nuclear Medicine Service including:a. Ensuring delivery of the Nuclear Medicine Procedure Manual detailing scientific, processing and quality assurance aspects of the delivery of Nuclear Medicine investigations.b. Ensuring that all procedures are of an appropriate standard, conform to national standards or guidelines and are regularly reviewed and agreed, as appropriate, with stakeholders supporting the service.c. Advising on the written procedures required to cover all aspects of the work and the document control system. All procedures should be subject to regular review to ensure that current published guidelines, published literature; results of local or national audits and changes in technology are taken into account.2.3 Ensure that physics work is delivered in accordance with agreed national and international standards, e.g. Nuclear Medicine QMS, radiation safety regulations, guidance notes and codes of practice.2.4 Identify, propose and support the implementation of service developments within the Nuclear Medicine Service in collaboration with other stakeholders. 3 Physical and Financial Resources3.1 Advise and support the Nuclear Medicine service and external customers on the specification, evaluation, procurement, installation and safe use of equipment worth millions of pounds, leading projects for the replacement of such equipment when required.3.2 Take responsibility for carrying out the commissioning, acceptance testing, critical examination (safety inspection) and routine testing/calibration of equipment in the Nuclear Medicine Service and external customers to ensure it complies with radiological safety regulations and standards.3.3 Take responsibility for management of the services computer systems.3.4 Take responsibility for maintenance and organisation of service contracts for systems within Nuclear Medicine. 4 Human Resources4.1 Lead and manage the Nuclear Medicine clinical scientist team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration and professional development.4.2 Develop and promote specialist training packages for Nuclear Medicine staff and stakeholders.4.3 Provide training and mentorship to clinical scientists and technologists working within the Nuclear Medicine Service and other trainees.4.4 Provide training to other groups of healthcare professionals within the Trust and other organisations (e.g. specialist registrars undertaking FRCR, IRMER operator courses). 5 Information resources5.1 Be responsible for the oversight and production of performance data for all clinical services within Nuclear Medicine (e.g. DM01 KPI data)5.2 Develop software for novel methods of processing and analysing Nuclear Medicine data in response to clinical/R&D requirements.5.3 Ensure the distribution and analysis of clinical images for stakeholder use. 6 Research & Development6.1 Lead and participate in research activities to advance nuclear medicine physics and clinical services.6.2 Collaborate with other centres to develop a R&D strategy, establishing and maintaining links with clinical and academic staff and encouraging the publication of generalisable outcomes.6.2 Initiate and carry out research within this strategy.6.3 Obtain grant funding for research within the strategy.
