Job overview
A Specialty Doctor within ENT is required at the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board based at Glan Clwyd Hospital. The post will commence as soon as possible.
Glan Clwyd Hospital is close to the towns of St Asaph and Rhyl, on the North Wales coastline and is 25 mins from Chester where some doctors live. It is a beautiful region of the UK. We have close links with Liverpool, Chester and Wrexham.
This post is for 12 months fixed term.
Main duties of the job
The ENT Department consists of 4 consultants, 4 middle grades, 5 junior doctors/FY2/GP trainees/Clinical Fellows and 3 nurse practitioners. The department is the largest centralised head and neck cancer unit in Wales and hosts the regional Head and neck cancer MDT within the Glan Clwyd Cancer Centre. A new dedicated ENT Theatre features a ceiling mounted Microscope, CO2 and KTP laser systems as well as a brand new HD stacker system for use in all cases especially FESS. The North Wales Cochlear Implant programme is based at Glan Clwyd involving the Audiology and ENT Depts. Specialist clinics include head and neck clinics, balance clinic, CI clinic, voice clinic and minor ops sessions. We have a regular formal education programme and audit meetings often combined with Wrexham ENT Dept. The dept can be busy with on-call and ward referrals but the timetable includes clinic and theatre sessions for supernumerary educational opportunities and we encourage surgical skills development.
The Audiology department provides state of the art specialised facilities for both community and acute hospital patients.

Development of doctors' knowledge, clinical skills, and surgical experience is a high priority and is individually encouraged. Career progress is promoted and within our department recently a SHO grade doctor is now on the middle grade duties, a locum middle grade has been appointed as permanent Specialty Doctor. Previous Staff Grade/middle grade doctors have progressed to consultant level in the UK and abroad. We can help develop individuals' CV for career development and reward enthusiasm including support towards FRCS exam and Article 14 CESR/CCT certification.
