Job overview
An opportunity has become available to join the Older Persons Medicine team on ward 12 at James Cook University Hospital. Working as a Health Care Support Worker within the team, you will help care for 27 patients.
Candidates should have a passion for the care of patients with complex medical needs and frailty syndromes including Dementia, Delirium, and Falls.

Main duties of the job
Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.
Band 2 requirements – willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.
Band 3 requirements:
* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)
* Care certificate
* Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties
* Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3
There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3, which includes completion of the qualifications.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
* Time-keeping, planning, and prioritisation skills.
* Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems.
* Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient/service user interactions and observations.
* Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision.
* Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies.
Qualifications Band 3
* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English GCSE A-C/4-9 or equivalent
* Care certificate
* Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties.
Qualifications Band 2
* Must complete the care certificate within the 6 months probationary period and on-the-job training.
Experience
* Experience of working in health or social care.
* Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalation of changes or findings.
