Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a temporary (23 month) Band 5 Assistant Psychologist post working in the neuro-oncology team within the paediatric psychology service at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust. The post is available on a 0.8 WTE basis (30 hours per week). This post would be ideal for applicants considering a future clinical or research career.
The Paediatric Health Psychology Service is a thriving department, committed to child and family centred care. There are opportunities for professional development through regular journal clubs and case discussion meetings.

This post offers the opportunity for an experienced Assistant Psychologist to develop their skills further, gaining outpatient, inpatient, and research experience in a busy hospital setting. The paediatric neuro-oncology team is highly active in research. This post will support the lead psychologist in neuro-oncology with two main areas of research, and with clinical cases.
Responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible (under supervision) to engage in the following tasks:
* Administration of neuropsychology assessments to children (WISC V, WPPSI IV, and similar) and report writing.
* Database entry of clinical and research data (Excel).
* Preparation and presentation of reports based on research data.
* Providing appropriate therapy to children and parents.
* Organisation and booking of a monthly clinic for children receiving medication.
* Support with recruitment and appointing of patients, siblings, and family members to online group sessions.
* Supporting the running of groups led by a Clinical Psychologist.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* To support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients.
* Providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
* To assist in clinical related administration, conduct of audits, data quality work, teaching and project work.
* This post involves working independently according to a work plan agreed with line manager and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

Essential criteria
* Single honours degree (upper second class or higher) in psychology.
Desirable criteria
* Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Paid or voluntary experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or alongside a Clinical Psychologist.
* Computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office and statistical packages for data analysis.
* Experience of conducting literature searches and reviews.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working with patient groups with psychological difficulties.
* Experience of working with groups.
Knowledge And Skills

* Knowledge of developmental processes from childhood to old age.
* Understanding the needs of individuals with psychological difficulties.
