Our Operating Theatre Department have an exciting opportunity to join our well established theatre team as a full / part time Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner or Staff nurse. We are looking for candidates with experience in Anaesthetics or Scrub as a fully qualified practitioner.
This comes at an exciting time when we are building a new hospital as part of the government new hospital scheme. Our specialties include Ophthalmology, General Surgery, ENT, Gynecology, Urology, Maxilla-facial, elective Orthopedics, Acutes & trauma, Obstetrics and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit.
We require staff to cover a 24 hour service over a 7 day period, however a work life balance roster may be accommodated through flexible working.
Main duties of the job
Participate in the planning, implementation and assessing of patient care in line with SPLINTS requirements..
Work as a flexible Theatre Practitioner in full support of the Theatre Team.
Ensure all documentation is completed accurately, legibly and confidentiality is maintained.
Maintain NMC/HCPC registration and practice within the code of professional conduct where applicable.
Perform operating department duties in accordance with agreed policies & procedures.
Adhere to guidelines and policies pertaining to the safe administration and storage ofmedicines within the department.
Participate in the provision of 24hr cover of the department as directed by theTheatreCoordinator, Clinical Theatre Manager / Matron or Patient Service Manager.
Participate in the interdepartmental rotation within skills within your scope of practice when required.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Participate in the training and development of junior staff.
Liaise with other multidisciplinary teams including but not limited to the Bed manager, Clinicians, ward staff and departments to ensure the patient is entered on the relevantcare pathway for timely treatment.
Participate in the Team brief / Debrief & as safety officer in a timely manner ensuring required staffing, investigation results, checks and handover documentation is in place.
Ensure the Covid status of the patient & AGP requirements are ascertained in a timely manner to facilitate smooth running of the list.
Take part in MDT meetings for Morning & Evening handover in line with anaesthetic / surgical hand over requirements.
Attend Audit / Governance meetings as required.
SCRUB & CIRCULATING DUTIES:
Participate as a scrubbed member of the theatre team and carry out safety checks on swabs, instruments & needles in conjunction with a second person & reporting on the same to the surgeon.
Act as circulating member of the operating theatre team
Assist in the preparation and cleaning of the theatre suite inconsideration of fallow period associated with AGP clearance times and handling of clinical waste body fluids, tissue.
Assist with the safe disposal of instrumentation and clinical waste body fluids, tissue at the end of surgery.
Assist with the safe positioning and preparation of surgical patients on the operating table as requested by the surgeon and anaesthetist
Assist in the care, labelling and despatch of specimens for laboratory examination.
Following successful completion of the internal file competency framework of Scrub Practitioners moving towards in-house Surgical First Assistant for minor & Intermediate Train
Inform the Clinical Theatre Manager and or theatre sister Charge ODP of any problems, proposed changes to the order of the operating list

Ensure effective communication link between theatre, patient & Ward including preoperative assessment & postoperative care evaluation
Be involved in the team completion of the surgical safety checklist for all surgical interventions as part of the Five Steps to Safer Surgery WHO
Assist with patient positioning including tissue viability assessment
Apply dressing as required
Assist in transfer of patient to post-operative anaesthetic care area
Cut superficial sutures skin sutures
Superficial skin and tissue retraction
Assist with superficial wound closure
Assist with haemostasis in order to secure and maintain a clear
operating field including indirect application of surgical diathermy
Use Superficial suction as instructed by the operating surgeon
ANAESTHETIC & RECOVERY DUTIES
Carry out the preliminary checking of all anaesthetic and recovery (PACU) equipment prior to the commencement of the theatre list.
Participate in the team completion of the surgical safety check list for all anaesthetic & surgical interventions as part of a Five Steps to Safer Surgery.
Receive and identify patients in line with the LocSSIPs & NatSSIPs requirements.
Provide skilled, specialised assistance to the anaesthetist peri-operatively, and in outlying areas A&E, CT scan, out of hospital transfer team and a part of the trust resuscitation team following current Covid guidelines.
Report immediately to the medical staff any adverse changes in the patients condition or any other aspect of concern.
To participate in the post operative recovery patients at all levels of dependency.
